2010 Corn at Orthman Research Farm is Planted…May 14th, 2010

After the rains, some normal little issues of equipment like any other farm operation – we got all the corn seed in the ground and rounded out with 80+ plots.

 

Soybeans will be next but the soil temperatures are way too cold yet, hovering in the upper 2 inches at 56 to 58 degrees F and at 4 inches it is 52 to 54 degrees F. Warmer temperatures are promised and we should be able to get the seed in the ground by May 21st.

 

We went up north to southern portions of North Dakota and saw corn still in the field standing not harvested from 2009 folks. We feel horrible for those folks. Every field is saturated and standing water is prevalent everywhere.
