Job Description:

Apply knowledge of computer-aided tools to design, resize or modify equipment and components for manufacturing, working closely with business unit sales groups, customers, production floor and other engineering personnel.

  • Use SolidWorks and AutoCAD 3D modeling software to design product changes and innovations, and to create prints for use by the shop floor.
  • Perform finite element analyses (FEA).
  • Create costed bills of materials and routings in order to standardize parts, and make ECN changes as needed.
  • Develop specifications for purchased materials and fabricated components, identify sources, solicit quotes, and select vendors.
  • Provide design reports for major projects identifying design processes, calculations, safety factors, estimated costs, functional analyses, and FEA or other simulation results.
  • Work with shop personnel to create and improve prototypes from concept through first build, and to develop tooling for new designs.
  • Develop quotes, estimates and feasibility studies for customer requests.
  • Travel to visit producers, to field test prototypes, and to attend trade shows.
  • Perform other tasks within the scope of this position.

  • Occasional travel.
  • Usually in air conditioned office setting, some non-air conditioned manufacturing plant environments, occasional outside exposure to seasonal weather extremes.
  • Positions during the day include, but are not limited to, sitting, standing, bending, leaning, stretching, crouching, squatting, stooping, twisting and kneeling.
  • Motions include, but are not limited to, walking, pushing, pulling, gripping, lifting and carrying of objects up to 40 lbs, climbing ladders, negotiating stairways, typing and writing.
  • Safety equipment worn as needed is protective clothing, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toed shoes, and respirators.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET/EAC accredited program in Mechanical, Agricultural or Structural Engineering.
  • Over 5 years’ experience in agricultural equipment or related industry.
  • Proficiency in FEA, and in SolidWorks and AutoCAD 3D modeling software.
  • Able to effectively use Microsoft Office software products.
