Economics of fuel consumed at the Farm mean a great deal to the growers profit margin – Read what happened with CSU’s study in 2011!

Data collected at the CSU-ARDEC Farm north of Fort Collins, CO shows that in a comparison study (2 years running) Strip-Till is very much a fuel savings process. This preliminary data from the long term study was duplicated in 4 acre+ size plots with Conventional Plow tillage system, Strip-Till and a Minimum Till system under furrow irrigation. The study is all irrigated corn.

The conventional tillage approach used $49.50 worth of fuel to get the crop harvested, $22.20 with Strip-Till and $19.30 for the Minimum Till approach. That kind of savings folks is something we acknowledge all across the U.S. with strip-till and applaud the folks at CSU for keeping such close eye on the dollars spend with the use of the Orthman 1tRIPr as the foundation of strip-till.

News like this when we are well aware of the diesel prices today taking its toll on how we farm makes sense. We will have more data to share with you as the scientists at CSU release the information in the next coming weeks.
