Just completed the root studies for the 25th day after emergence to observe what is happening in the two most promising tillage/planting concepts for corn farmers.
We are running a myriad of plots to check out what are the differences with varying fertility levels, what products will enhance crop development, an additive from FB Sciences that stimulates roots along with fertilizers and some differing day lengths in strip-till.

The No-Till is showing consistently fewer roots on the 4th node compared to the Strip-Tilled plots, 3 to 5 inches shorter in the No-Till, same Dekalb variety – all planted the same day within 30 minutes of each other, May 7th.

In another variety bred in Nebraska (Excell Hybrids) the Strip-Till is also further advanced in 3rd and 4th nodal roots. Plants are 5 inches taller in strip-till and 4 inches deeper on the average over the No-Till (Direct Seeded corns).
