Truly a good feeling when any of us finish harvesting the 2011 crop of corn. At the Orthman Research Farm we did not pop any corks, but we did celebrate a bit when the plot results came in and observed that the tried and true Orthman approach with the 1tRIPr starting the path for corn to grow we topped the 250 bushels/acre club in several of our plots. After carefully applying 72lbs of Nitrogen via the strip-till operation, 7 lbs with the planter, using some of the best grade of liquid fertilizers we know of here in Nebraska (Kugler Fertilizer Co.), 4 times through the pivot with a N source we metered out another 96lbs of actual N – totalling 175lbs of nitrogen, to yield 195 bu/ac for the average across all of the irrigated acres and a top plot weighed in to yield 285bu/acre.

We are developing the reports for our research partners now and will have some reports out to you in the coming days.

Keep tuned in, right here.
