Strip-Till vs, Conventional Full Width Tillage Corn

Our Orthman representative from Indiana sent us some interesting news from the 2010 corn harvest that sheds some light on tillage differences. Many have asked all across the lower 48,”what kind of differences does Strip-Till alone do over conventionally tilled corn?”

From NE Indiana we have this from two farmer harvested and weighed plots of strip-till compared to conventional – ST was 223.2 bu/ac, the Conventional weighed in at 194.2 bu/ac. Second plot comparison: strip-till at 219.7 and the conventional at 214.4 bu/ac. First set of plots are 13% improvement in the Strip-till and in the other 3% more over the conventional. At $5.00 corn folks that is $145 per acre for the 13% rise and $25.50 per acre jump. That catches my eye!

Can strip-till help? Even in the small increment of bushels per acre rise this year we have reason to ask – does that sound helpful over a 100 acre field?

We will keep obtaining more information and sharing it as time and data comes in folks.
